CONFERENCE APPOINTMENTS

WCCW is all about mentoring and community. Our appointments are a wonderful way for you to grow as a writer and to connect with our community.

When you register, you’ll have the option of selecting various types of appointments. We encourage you to review the information below to select the faculty members who will be the best fit for you and your writing. If you’d like to change your appointment after you’ve registered, you can—instructions will come in your registration confirmation letter.

How to Select Your Appointments

If you’re attending in person, you have the option of selecting a Round Table, a Coaching & Critique appointment, and an Agent or Editor Appointment, allowing you to meet with up to three faculty members. If you’re attending with a Digital Access Pass, you have the option of selecting an Agent or Editor Appointment.

The faculty are divided into two groups—Freelance Faculty (professional writers who will be leading Round Tables and/or taking Coaching & Critique appointments) and Agents & Editors, who will lead Round Tables and take appointments in person and/or virtually.

Even if your first choice is taken, we encourage you to select someone else—sometimes the best appointments are the unexpected ones! All of our faculty have been chosen not only for their writing expertise but for their heart for helping writers grow.

If you don’t already know which faculty members you’d like to meet, please click the buttons below to see who is the best fit for you and your writing. The document lists all our faculty, their bios, and the topics they’re interested in reviewing or discussing. The table lists topics of interest in a simple, visual format. You can visit the individual faculty pages for more information. To access the individual faculty pages, click the link under each faculty member’s photo shown on the main faculty page.)

Types of Appointments

1.  Agent & Editor Appointments—Individual, In-Person, and Digital Access ($40)

With your in-person registration or your Digital Access Pass, you have the option of scheduling one 15-minute appointment with an editor or an agent for an additional $40 fee. We do have a limited number of appointments, so don’t wait! If you’re attending in-person, please select an in-person appointment while they last—if none remain with that faculty member, you may select a virtual appointment.

Virtual appointments will be conducted via phone, Zoom, or Skype, between Oct. 21-Nov. 19, 2023.

At your in-person or virtual appointment, you may pitch a project or ask questions. NOTE: agents and editors will not receive your materials in advance and will not critique your work.

2. Coaching and Critique Appointments—Individual, In-Person Only (free with registration)

Your in-person registration includes one optional 15-minute Coaching & Critique Appointment. We have a limited number of slots, so don’t procrastinate!

For your appointment, you have the option of submitting a writing sample in advance for critique or of simply discussing questions or topics. This is a great opportunity to get professional feedback on your writing, or to brainstorm, ask questions, and glean wisdom.

If you have any questions, please contact Jan Kern at [email protected].

3. Round Tables—Group, In-Person Only (free with registration)

Round Tables are optional, but we strongly encourage everyone to select one. You will meet with up to eight attendees in person with a faculty member in a low-pressure, no-stress group for an hour. You will each have a specific amount of time (usually 6-8 minutes) to ask questions, brainstorm, or find out if an idea has promise. A Round Table is a fun and interesting way to meet fellow writers and get to know a writing professional!
